Miles Ok not to be funny, but Precise hasn't been the most active one - fair enough everyone has personal things going on. You have to understand, from our POV - there are very few of us that are active, so not only has a new Level system been brought in, none of the community were consulted about it. Fair enough, it's not our server - do what you want but then Precise, someone that's not being active decides to make end-all decisions again without consulting any of us. Fair enough, Precise has admitted his inactivity but that's not the point I'm focusing on here.
As you said, Precise has not been active recently and he has openly admitted it on multiple occasions. He can tell you exactly why if he wishes but I will not be doing that here. Additionally, I've been notified beforehand about this period of inactivity and it was not uncalled for. Regarding Precise having the final say on everything; Yes, he has the end decision for many small decisions, but most major decisions go through me and I am the one who has the final say. For example, Precise wanted to reset XP levels on New Years but I ultimately disliked the idea and rejected the proposal. Now that Precise has just come back after a relatively long period of inactivity, more decisions will require my approval as he has not been interacting with the community for a while.
Miles IMO, VIP and MVP were working. The level system is good, but for a server on a much larger scale, not a small community like us. We're not 12 year olds, we don't need gold stars when we send messages.
The current levelling system is basically the same as the old coins system, except there is no more gambling/exchange and more roles, which in my opinion, give people a bigger drive to be active and talk in order to gain perks. Your gold star analogy makes no sense whatsoever because giving coins when you send a message is no different from giving XP.
Miles Zingy has been doing Precise's job for a month or so and it's unfair on Zingy and the rest of us as Manager is quite an important role that isn't being filled - and should've prevented this discussion even happening in the first place.
Yes, I do agree with this point here and I do believe it would be a better choice to promote one of the administrators to a temporary Manager position so the Discord server could run better. For example, staff applications haven't been open ever since Precise become inactive and staff promotions haven't been happening either. This point is entirely my fault and I take responsibility.
Miles Nobody's saying they we run this server and we're not blaming anyone for anything. The point is things needs to change for the better and it's unfair on the people that are active that things are being changed without asking the community.
If the "change" you are referring to here is the transition from an economy-based reward system to an XP-based one, I'd just like to point out that EVERYONE in #special-chat was pinged for testing the bot, and later @Announcements. Okay, I guess I didn't explicitly say we were going to use the bot on our server but come on, the Discord was named "Bot Testing" and it should probably be assumed that we were going to implement this bot into the main Discord. Had the community intervened and stated that they were against the XP system, I would have reconsidered the switch. Everyone in the test Discord seemed to like the XP system and therefore I did not think people would be so against the switch once the bot was put on the main Discord. I did not feel it was necessary to ping people twice for a test server and a poll about if they liked the bot or not.
Miles It's not a case of letting chosen people make the decisions around here. IMO it's a community thing and changes should be raised to the community in the forum or in a vote. Yes admins & staff have the final say but it should be the final say, not the only say.
See my answer above. A test discord was made instead of a poll and users were able to get hands-on experience with the new bot, instead of blindly taking part in a poll. In my opinion, this was better than just holding a poll.
Miles We can't have speak out against anything when nobody gives us the chance to have a say. Decisions are made without informing the community most of the time. If things are just directly dropped in the community without any warning what so ever, people can’t have a say in things. And if somethings broken, it can be fixed before release instead of it breaking something down the line. We need a say in things from the start, not once things are already here.
The staff team and I will try to listen to the community more and hold polls more often, but I believe for things like "should I change the price for GrantX", I should have the only say and I don't need to listen to anyone else about how I price my own product. And for the case of the XP system- see my answer above. The community WERE given a chance to have a say, though I do admit it wasn't blatantly obvious I was looking for opinions, I think people would have realized the server was going to switch to an XP-based system when they joined the server and people leveling up and there being an XP leaderboard, and knew that they had the ability to give their opinion on the bot.
